What is Backlink?

If you are searching for the answer to what is a backlink you are most probably familiar with the terms SEO (search engine optimization).

If you have a website or blog the link that is coming to your web is called your webs backlinks. Suppose you have a website called abc[dot]com. Now another website called 123[dot]com has a link that is coming to your abc[dot]com is a backlink.

So your abc[dot]com has a backlink 123[dot]com.

It means these are the incoming links which you are getting from other websites.

That is the core concept of backlinks. Any links that are connecting to your website is your backlink.

Why are Backlinks Important?

Mostly for SEO proposes. Google uses different kinds of algorithms to rank any website. The backlink is one of the most important aspects of the ranking factor of any website. Before a few years from now, the quantity of the backlinks was the most important factor. But now it’s not only the quantity but also the quality and the relevancy of the backlinks are important.

Types of Backlink

A website can have two kinds of backlinks Do-follow links and No-follow links. As the name suggests Do-follow links are indexed as backlinks and no-follow links are not indexed as a backlink by search engines.
In simple words, if you consider backlinks are the vote for your website on the internet Do-follow links are the vote that would be counted and No-follow links are the vote that would not be counted by search engines.
This is more of a textbook rule.
But the fact is Google loves link diversity. So, If you want to rank your website you have to have both do-follow and no-follow backlinks. On the other hand, if you have only do-follow links linking back to your website Google will find out that you are building backlinks in a scammy way and penalize you.

Link Juice

when I first read “link juice“ I was very scared.

Actually, it’s very simple.

When a web page links to any of your web pages it passes certain relevance in the eye of any search engine that is link juice. This link juice helps with the ranking of your web page, website, and also improves the domain authority. If you don’t want to pass down your link juice you can stop passing the link juice by using a no-follow tag.

Linking Root Domains

This refers to the number of backlinks coming to your website from a particular domain. Even if a website has linked to your website ten times, it would be considered as the one linked root domain.

Internal Links
